About ME

My name is Zia (Ziarrah) Fox and I am a part-time sound designer located in Austin, Texas. I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2018 with a BA in Music Technology. In 2021, I graduated again from the University of Illinois with my MFA in Theatre Sound Design and Technology and a Graduate Teaching Certificate.

In my work, I strive to innovate. In what new ways can I use sound to immerse my audience in a musical, opera, dance, or musical performance? Outside of live events, I am proficient in audio editing for a variety of mediums, including podcasts, music composition, and voice overs.

There is nothing more satisfying to me than the way a visual “clicks” into place with the right sound underneath. My love of sound stretches across many subjects - marching band, choir, voice acting, animation, video games, and theatre. Voice acting in particular has always been a special interest of mine, and it’s something I am hoping to work more with in the near future.

LISTEN

I wrote these songs for a production of Lysistrata that was unrealized due to COVID-19. The setting was purposefully ambiguous - the women were living in the future while the men were clinging to the past. To emphasize this, I used electronic instruments with a rubato feel to represent the women, while the men were represented by brass and drums. When they come together, they make interesting music!

Lysistrata

An underscoring for an unrealized production of Lysistrata. For more about this show, head to the Lysistrata page.

“My Songs”

These songs are a collection of pieces I’ve written in my free time since 2017. My works draw inspiration from the styles of video game music and fantasy. For more information on each particular track, go to soundcloud.com/ziaudio.

“Schoolwork - Electroacoustic”

This playlist is a compilation of my favorite Electroacoustic works that I created during my undergraduate education at the University of Illinois (2014-2018). These are the roots for my ability to manipulate sound in creative ways.
